Metrology is the science of measurement. It’s a field of study that focuses on using a specific measurement to evaluate the results and calculation of any uncertainties with different types of instruments. This is how calibration falls into the field of metrology.
Calibration also involves measuring the output of an instrument against a standard. This involves a process of testing equipment to ensure that precise and accurate measurements are provided by instruments used across many industries. Whether you are manufacturing a product or performing a medical test, you want to make sure all of your equipment is giving proper readings. This is especially true for both doctors and patients in a medical setting. One faulty reading can result in an incorrect diagnosis.
Calibration is required to ensure that proper information is being provided.
